$190 Burger and Advertising To High End That Makes You Say Holy Cow!

Would you pay much less eat a burger at $190 if it was described like this;
"Unfortunately the meat has to be cooked to U.K. Food Safety Standards at around 74 degrees Celsius (165 Fahrenheit), so it's overcooked by anyone's standards and pretty dry."

This is exactly what the author of the article Emma Hall had to say about Burger King's new upscale limited time pointed at Harrod's crowd in west London.
According to the article this is a PR drive to benefit a children's charity and of course to drive up chains name high in British eyes.
So far they have managed to offload it to 90 children loving or who thought Burger king was from royal family. But the benefit might work out to be positive as it seems it certainly has upped the interest of competition, one with double arc. The article on Advertising Age in thought provoking (likes of stupid {not the article}) so read it and do what ever you do when ever you are *,*,*, and **.

Where I live, gay or being gay is not a problem and all people live harmoniously, 99% of the time. I have no problem with how others want to live or love.
But this ad that was pulled from UK, seem to be making rounds every where. Perhaps that is what the agency which Heinz hired wanted in the first place, shock advertising.
But does Mayonnaise and Gays go together in an ad?

Online Advertising Revenues Up Despite Economic Woes.

Source: PwC/IAB Internet Advertising Revenue Report (www.iab.net)

As I mentioned in a post earlier, I visit IAB Interactive Advertising Bureau, to get a part of my information. So the latest news on Internet advertising is that Spending on Internet advertising continues to climb -- year over year -- reaching $5.8 billion for the three-month period ended March 31, 2008, as visible on the above graph.
"“We continue to experience significant growth and vitality in interactive marketing, media and advertising,” said Randall Rothenberg, president and CEO of the IAB. “We expect growth to continue, as consumers spend more and more time online, and marketers find more – and more innovative – ways to reach them through digital media.” "
But it is necessary to know that the numbers dipped a little fro Q4 2007 numbers, which was 5.9 billion.

So all those money you have been making on Internet is a part of that number!. Even though the times are hard on economy all over the world, advertisers are turning to the most accessed media of the day for their advertisements, next to TV. The reach of Internet is also growing. The 'net is reaching even into the far corners of the world, villages in India. It is just not a novelty any more. The village farmers are finding the market prices of their produce and pushing middle men to share the lions share of profits with them. People are realizing the value of Internet all over the world and finding many ways to find ways to get Internet too. A village in Sri Lanka, an Island off south of India, enjoying Internet services, even before they got a single telephone line to the village, thanks to a wireless mesh system. This system is being adopted many other places all over the world.

So everyday, the 'net is becoming the mall of the world. Just like the mall advertising, shops and marketeers need to reach their share of audience and it is you who will be the middle man or middle woman. What Are The Standard Ad Sizes For The Internet?

As I am all about advertisements, I usually visit IAB, The Interactive Advertising Bureau, for get information and guidelines. IAB usually gives the sizes, weight and other information such as duration of animation.
You may have found your browser eating out your CPU power, specially if you have multiple tabs open and they happen to be running ads. Flash ads are notorious for taking over your CPU for themselves.
So it is best to follow those guidelines when you are designing websites and templates. Usually people tend to run on blogs such as mine on blogger and the other popular platform, Wordpress. So there are multitude of designers and developers for both the platforms catering to the needs of users.
Remember, if your website gives a bad experience to users, it does not matter how good your site is, people tend to run away from your site and find alternatives. So even if you have crammed your site with ads, you might never reach the dream, making money on the internet!.

So be careful in the design of your website. Follow the IAB guidelines as they have done their homework on Internet Advertising or Online Advertising as many calls it.
As I mentioned, I am alway on the lookout for good, no! best templates for blogs and one site I usually visit is Fresh 01. They make some very best templates for the blogger all over the world.
Even if you have been to the site, browsed through the templates and even installed one, you may have not noticed that they als run a good blog, always with good advise and help on upgrading Wordpress etc.
What Fresh 01 also did was to create a advertisement size template for the Internet advertisements. Which I have posted above (after reversing the colors). You can also download a PSD, photoshop version of the file at frest 01.

Knowing Your Pagerank Will Help You With Your Advertising

I wrote about a Page Rank monitoring tool, (Page Rank Viewing! Know Your Pagerank All The Time.) that is available for checking pagerank on sites that you visit. It is also useful to check the pagerank of your own sites. But now I am without the tool as it is not available for Firefox 3 (I could not wait for the big event tomorrow but I will still download the final version of Firefox 3.0 tomorrow), which I upgraded today to finish up some of my development on a another web application.
So I set out to check if there were any other tools that would help me do the same thing untill the tool get updated. Then I realized that the keyword, "know your pagerank" "knowing your pagerank" points to MyAdlets. How did I do that! So I pulled out gear I have found out that all the Google site give MyAdlets a good reference, from USA to Timbaktu.
I should have got into this SEO business. But the results shows My ADLETS, The Viral Frontier in front of the Title of the article. But I am sure this post will not get indexed that way. It will have Article title first because I followed this;
Swap Blog Name And Post Title On Blogger
Just imagine, how many times, say for last ten years, the phrases, "know your pagerank" and "know your page rank" were published and hunted for.
I am not the top result for all the Google sites but most are. You can check at following Google sites again I did not list all;

Google Japan
Google China
Google Korea
Google UK
Google Israel
Google Philippines
Google India

The Place closest to Timbuktu (Tombouctou) was Morocco!
Google Morocco
I was going to say visit Matt Cutts page to learn about Pagerank and SEO but I just remembered that I will be writing about one of Matt's advise about pagerank. So the link and advise on next article.

Please leave a comment if you see different results from your country!

No to Microsoft, Yes To Google! Yahoo Signs Up For Adsense Services.

Yahoo seem to think Google to be a partner that will ensure positive advertising future for the company. Even though Yahoo has been the number one portal on the internet, Google with it's innovative products has been approaching that number one position.

Microsoft has seen this as a problem when Google and Yahoo brought in the test run of advertising earlier.

Recently US Corn Farmers protested the Google and Yahoo Ad union. Some time you have to laugh and say this is what makes this country great!. Read the story and you will learn another facade of lobbying in Washington. If you are planing to go big in USA, this is a must! Even though Yahoo and Google do not have to have Congressional approval for this deal, both have agree to wait three and half months while DOJ investigates the deal.

There is also a clue to would be take overs of Yahoo, plan to pay $250 million for early termination of this agreement if someone takes Yahoo over, or US Corn is successful in a future date!

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jun 12, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO), a leading global Internet company, announced today that it has reached an agreement with Google Inc. that will enhance its ability to compete in the converging search and display marketplace, advancing the company's open strategy. The agreement enables Yahoo! to run ads supplied by Google alongside Yahoo!'s search results and on some of its web properties in the United States and Canada. The agreement is non-exclusive, giving Yahoo! the ability to display paid search results from Google, other third parties, and Yahoo!'s own Panama marketplace.

Under the terms of the agreement, Yahoo! will select the search term queries for which - and the pages on which - Yahoo! may offer Google paid search results. Yahoo! will define its users' experience and will determine the number and placement of the results provided by Google and the mix of paid results provided by Panama, Google or other providers. The agreement applies to paid search and content match and does not apply to algorithmic search. The agreement also applies to current partners in Yahoo's publisher network.

Yahoo! CEO and co-founder Jerry Yang said, "We believe that the convergence of search and display is the next major development in the evolution of the rapidly changing online advertising industry. Our strategies are specifically designed to capitalize on this convergence -- and this agreement helps us move them forward in a significant way. It also represents an important next step in our open strategy, building on the progress we have already made in advancing a more open marketplace."

"This agreement provides a source of funds to both deliver financial value to stockholders from search monetization and to invest in our broader strategy to transform display advertising and advance our starting point objectives with users," said Yahoo! President Sue Decker. "It enhances competition by promoting our ability to compete in the marketplace where we are especially well positioned: in the convergence of search and display."

Agreement Provides Attractive Economics and Enhances Search Monetization

Yahoo! believes that this agreement will enable the Company to better monetize Yahoo!'s search inventory in the United States and Canada. At current monetization rates, this is an approximately $800 million annual revenue opportunity. In the first 12 months following implementation, Yahoo! expects the agreement to generate an estimated $250 million to $450 million in incremental operating cash flow.

The agreement will enhance Yahoo!'s ability to achieve its goal to grow operating cash flow significantly, while at the same time providing flexibility to continue to invest in ongoing initiatives such as algorithmic search innovation and search and display advertising platforms. It gives Yahoo! complete flexibility to continue to use its Panama paid search results.

Significant Benefits Will Flow to Users, Advertisers, Publishers and Employees

Users will also benefit from Yahoo!'s ability to invest incremental operating cash flow in ongoing improvements to its search services, building upon recent major innovations such as Search Assist and SearchMonkey. Advertisers will continue to benefit from multiple marketplace alternatives including Panama, Google and others. Publishers will benefit from a winning combination of distribution, monetization and services to help them grow their businesses. The financial benefits will enable Yahoo! to broaden the scope of its investments and initiatives, enhancing Yahoo!'s ability to offer attractive career opportunities to its employees.

Terms of the Agreement

The agreement will enable Yahoo! to run ads supplied by Google's AdSense(TM) for Search and AdSense(TM) for Content services next to Yahoo!'s internally generated paid search and algorithmic search results. Yahoo may also run Google-supplied ads on non-search Yahoo web properties, as well as on current members of its partner network. The agreement has a term of up to ten years: a four-year initial term and two, three-year renewals at Yahoo!'s option. It applies to Yahoo!'s operations in the U.S. and Canada only. Advertisers will continue to pay Yahoo! directly for clicks served by Yahoo! from Yahoo!'s Panama and Content Match marketplaces. Advertisers will pay Google directly for each click on Google paid search results appearing on Yahoo! owned and operated network or certain affiliate sites. Google will share a percentage of such revenue with Yahoo!.

In addition, Yahoo! and Google agreed to enable interoperability between their respective instant messaging services, bringing easier and broader communication to users.

The agreement allows either party to terminate the agreement in the event of a change in control of either party. The agreement also requires Yahoo! to pay a termination fee if the agreement is terminated as a result of a change in control that occurs within 24 months. The termination fee is $250 million, subject to reduction by 50 percent of revenues earned by Google under the agreement.

Although Google and Yahoo! are not required to receive regulatory approval of the deal before implementing it, the companies have voluntarily agreed to delay implementation for up to three and a half months while the U.S. Department of Justice reviews the arrangement.

Goldman, Sachs & Co., Lehman Brothers and Moelis & Company are acting as financial advisors to Yahoo!. Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP is acting as legal advisor to Yahoo!, and Munger Tolles & Olson LLP is acting as counsel to the outside directors of Yahoo!.

Yahoo! will host a conference call to discuss the agreement with Google at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time today. To listen to the call live, please dial 877-391-6847 (reservation number 70308474#). A live audiocast of the conference call can be accessed through the Company's Investor Relations website at http://yhoo.client.shareholder.com/index.cfm. In addition, an archive of the audiocast can be accessed through the same link. An audio replay of the call will be available following the conference call by calling 888-286-8010 (reservation number 84138579).

Toyota, Google And IKEA Has The Highest Reputation Ranking In The World

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 9, 2008 -- Toyota, the international car company currently celebrating its 50th year in the U.S., has earned the highest reputation ranking in Reputation Institute's Global Pulse 2008, its third annual survey measuring consumer perception of the world's largest corporations. Toyota led the pack and was followed by Google, Ikea, Ferrero, and Johnson & Johnson, rounding out the top five. "Of the top 200 companies measured in 27 countries, all earned Global Pulse scores significantly above the global mean of 64.2," says Kasper Nielsen, Managing Partner of Reputation Institute (RI) a global, private advisory firm specializing in corporate reputation management.

The Global Pulse 2008 study measures the overall respect, trust, esteem, admiration and good feelings consumers hold towards the largest 600 companies in the world.

Other highlights from Global Pulse 2008 include:

  • Toyota is the only car company in the top tier of reputation leaders and is followed by Volvo Bilar in the 30th spot.
  • Two U.S. companies, Google and Johnson & Johnson, notched top 5 rankings.
  • Food-related companies dominate the world's most respected top 10.
  • Consumer and tech product companies enjoy the best reputations followed by pharmaceutical companies, conglomerates, raw material manufacturers and airlines.
  • The largest gains in reputation from the previous years' study were in the information/media and computer sectors, where companies like Infosys Technologies (India), Sharp Corporation (Japan) and Xerox (U.S.) rose in the rankings between 2007 and 2008.
  • Cracking the global top 10 this year is Denmark's diabetes drug specialist Novo Nordisk, Mexico's food retailer Grupo Bimbo, and Switzerland's food giant Migros.
  • Making a big jump in rankings this year were China Faw Group Corp, Norway's Coop, Canada's Sobey's, and Japan's AEON

Reputation Drivers
Reputation Institute's research model indicates that reputation is built on 7 pillars from which a company can create a strategic platform for communicating with its stakeholders on the most relevant key performance indicators. These dimensions are: Products/Services, Innovation, Workplace, Citizenship, Governance, Leadership, and Performance.

The Global Pulse 2008 study indicates that consumers are most influenced by a company's delivery of high quality products and services, accounting for 17.6% of a company's reputation. But, Governance and Citizenship combined account for more than 30% of a company's reputation. "This makes it critical for companies worldwide to communicate how they support good causes, protect the environment, behave ethically and act openly and transparently about the way they do business," says Anthony Johndrow, Managing Director, RI.

Toyota, the most highly respected company, landed in the top spot for Governance, Products/Services, Leadership and Performance. Ikea was number one in both the Citizenship and Innovation dimensions. Google dominated in reputation for the Workplace dimension.

Why Reputation Matters
The Global Pulse 2008 offers insight on how reputation impacts and influence's a company's stakeholders worldwide -- and its bottom line. "When people trust, admire and have a good feeling about a company, they are willing to support and recommend the company to others," explains Johndrow, of the significant value of reputation. "We see a strong pattern between reputation and support, demonstrating that building a favorable reputation platform should be a part of a company's overall business strategy."

NoFollow, DoFollow ! U Comment, I Follow with iFollow

Update; We are moving this article series over to Geemodo!;
GeeMoDo, What Is In A Name, "Thousand Dollar Opportunity Of Our Times".

DoFollow, What is it and do I need it?
Depends on what you want, read or follow along for a small lecture.
DoFollow was created to counter the NoFollow initiative brought up by Google in the blogger platform to combat comment spam. Later other blogging platforms ;

Brad Fitzpatrick - LiveJournal
Dave Winer - Scripting News
Anil Dash - Six Apart
Steve Jenson - Blogger
Matt Mullenweg - WordPress
Stewart Butterfield - Flickr
Anthony Batt - Buzznet
David Czarnecki - blojsom
Rael Dornfest - Blosxom
Mike Torres - MSN Spaces,
Ross Rader - Blogware
John Panzer - AOL Journals
Kevin Marks - of Technorati also added a draft formal spec for nofollow.
Reini Urban - PhpWiki
David Gorman - ModBlog
Arnab Nandi - Drupal
James Tauber - Leonardo
Jeremie Bouillon - points out a GPL plugin for Textpattern
Simon Brown - Pebble
Ilkka Huotari - Netdoc
Shaun Inman - ShortStat
Eaden McKee - bBlog
Yariv Habot - backBlog
John Lyons - enetation
Steven Roussey - Network54
Will Yardley - Dreambook
Samuel Klingen Daams - Travellerspoint joined in. So anyone who is using NoFollow was saved from leaking Pageranks to comment spammers. But on the other side of this that non spamming commenter was also spared of link love. This was in 2005.

So the physics laws of blogsphere kicked in and to counter effects, the DoFollow initiative started. This is not a real technical initiative. Just that blogs did not have the NoFollow tag enabled on their blogs.

For Blogger it is to remove the nofolow tag from the template and for wordpress there are even plugins that handle nofollow.
But the ifollow is one of the movements that I found in the initial search venture. So I will look for all the initiatives and bring out another post with All the links and such. At least you know about some blooging platforms that are out there!

Graduating, Moving To Ohio and Effective Advertising.

I am a member of EntreCard community and through the Community, I have come across various people and sites attached to them that would have never found via casual web surfing. Other than dropping cards, (just like you give your business card to your contacts) and receiving them (Like you accept business cards from people you come across in you working or non working days.) EC introduce you to a large array of web sites and blogs. So I have registered this blog, MyAdlets and Meddesktop at EntreCard site.

While browsing through the other sites, I came across Ohio Real Estate and Homes For Sale, and for some reason I knew I had to mark this site down. So as usual I dropped my card and bookmarked the site.
Later on I had to attend a graduation ceremony at my university as one of my colleagues has finished his PHD. After the lengthy graduation rituals we went out for celebration. Unlike those lower degree graduates, we do not have energy nor the capacity to party like it is 2999. We are already in the real world, we have to think of making jumps into corporate ladders a few rungs higher and prove that we are capable of going even higher, from the day one. So we went out for nice dance hosted by the alumni club and immediately started talking about what our plans for the future in our circle within the greater circle of graduates and alumni. I had nothing much to say because I am stuck with some research that I have to finish and I plan to be in the University for a few more years. This bring to mention my motto! "To Educate yourself, Never Graduate, (After finishing your Masters!)". The last part makes it easier to grab grants!.

Anyway the others who had better plans and motto's than mine, started talking about moving to other states, some to other countries. What their new jobs going to be and where they going to live. Buy a house now or rent, is it a good market to invest in a house etc.
Wham! I remembered why I bookmarked the site I mentioned above, one of the graduates, a friend of mine, is moving to Ohio and they were going to need a real estate agent in Ohio. So I pulled my Blackberry out retrieved my bookmark and emailed it to him right then and there. My friend had mentioned about looking for a job in Ohio months ago and that was in back of my mind some where. Seeing the real estate in Ohio site signaled myself to bookmark the site.

Seeing the Real Estate website in the right place, (there is no wrong place to advertise, if you know what you are doing!) I was able to connect my need (my friends need) to the resource presented to me through EntreCard Advertising.
So folks at the outset, you might wonder if it worth to advertise on a site that is not related to your field. But I think properly planed advertising has place on everywhere, be it online or offline.
The lesson for real estate agents, take a good look at graduates in your cities, those ones with PHDs and Masters, they have different needs and outlooks than other graduates. Now you know some of those needs. Real Estate. So next time when graduations come around, walk into University campuses and drop your Real Estate Business cards as most of these people will be looking for place to roost, and they can afford to buy a house or an apartment. If they are moving out, explain that you can put your network to get resources in any place they are planing to move. Remember, they also know it is better to own now than rent. It is always good to advertise your site on EntreCard too.

Spotlight Mobile Advertising With Nokia MOSH

Nokia service enables advertisers to target mobile content users
Espoo, Finland - MOSH, a mobile and online content consumption, creation and sharing service, has joined the Nokia Media Network, and now offers advertisers the opportunity to reach customers around the globe who are downloading original mobile content. The Nokia Media Network provides reach to more than 100 million consumers around the globe through advertising on blue-chip mobile publishers, operator partners and Nokia properties.
"We are committed to expanding the Nokia Media Network, which is growing rapidly in both reach and quality, so we can drive greater results for our brand advertisers," said Mike Baker, vice president and head of Nokia Interactive Advertising. "The MOSH audience, comprised of the heaviest users of mobile content around the world, is particularly desirable to many of our top advertisers."
MOSH has launched its "Spotlight" program, a 'paid placement' advertising initiative, where advertisements are Spotlight-branded and placed above all organic browse, search and contextual placements. Spotlight gives brands and mobile content companies the opportunity for promotion with highlighted placements for their content. Spotlight content is always front and center for all MOSH users to see, and, as MOSH is seamlessly integrated between Web and mobile, so too are the Spotlight campaigns, including banner ads for both the mobile and traditional Internet.
The feature has already proven to be a great success for its initial customers. Vringo, a U.S.-based video sharing community that allows consumers to find, create and share video ringtones, was a launch partner in the Spotlight program. Since signing up as a Spotlight partner in early May, Vringo's downloads have increased by over 100 percent.
"Vringo is thrilled with the way the MOSH user community has embraced our application," said Andrew Perlman, Vringo general manager and SVP of content and community. "The additional visibility the Spotlight program provides has helped us gain additional exposure and users on a scale that has exceeded our expectations."
BLUE LION mobile, a Germany-based developer of interactive mobile applications, was both an early uploader to MOSH as well as partner in the Spotlight Program with BLUE LION's mobile software, "qeep." Qeep is a Java-based multilayered mobile social networking application that includes free messaging, photo blogging and multiplayer gaming. Since signing up as a Spotlight partner in early May, downloads of qeep have increased by over 95 percent.
"We are very happy that qeep has been a pioneer of the Spotlight Program," said Christian Schulte, co-founder and managing director of BLUE LION mobile. "Thanks to MOSH, downloads of Qeep have escalated significantly. We will therefore be expanding our participation in the Spotlight program."
Additionally, Universal Pictures will be launching a Spotlight campaign in promotion of the studio's new film, "Wanted."
A completely open platform, MOSH connects content creators ready to upload and showcase original content (applications, games, graphics and themes) with a global community of consumers who are looking for it. For more information: http://mosh.nokia.com or http://mosh.nokia.com/spotlight.
Nokia Interactive Advertising provides brands with all they need to connect with and engage the mobile consumer, including the following:
- The Nokia Media Network, which provides reach to millions of mobile Internet users through advertising on blue-chip mobile publishers, operator partners and Nokia services.
- Nokia Interactive Solutions, which creates end-to-end, high-performance mobile experiences for brands and their customers.

Walmart Says It Is Reinventing Classifieds With Free Online Classifieds Beta.

After dropping the online music sales Walmart is out with another beta. A beta Free Online Classifieds site. But when I visited the site there were more than 40 million listings. I was surprised to see so many listings on a beta site but soon I understood the game. The site, launched last week is powered by Oodle.com. Oodle.com in turn aggregates listings from many local and national sites. Walmart free online classified ads is here.

The service currently allows sellers and buyers to post and search for items in seven categories and in major U.S. cities.
Craigslist (which I use when I need to find something locally) and EBay's Kijiji are two companies that offer free, or primarily free, classified listings. But we have to see if people will leave Craigslist for Walmart!

I got to go and post my gadgets that I don't use on Craigslist.
