What Are The Standard Ad Sizes For The Internet?

As I am all about advertisements, I usually visit IAB, The Interactive Advertising Bureau, for get information and guidelines. IAB usually gives the sizes, weight and other information such as duration of animation.
You may have found your browser eating out your CPU power, specially if you have multiple tabs open and they happen to be running ads. Flash ads are notorious for taking over your CPU for themselves.
So it is best to follow those guidelines when you are designing websites and templates. Usually people tend to run on blogs such as mine on blogger and the other popular platform, Wordpress. So there are multitude of designers and developers for both the platforms catering to the needs of users.
Remember, if your website gives a bad experience to users, it does not matter how good your site is, people tend to run away from your site and find alternatives. So even if you have crammed your site with ads, you might never reach the dream, making money on the internet!.

So be careful in the design of your website. Follow the IAB guidelines as they have done their homework on Internet Advertising or Online Advertising as many calls it.
As I mentioned, I am alway on the lookout for good, no! best templates for blogs and one site I usually visit is Fresh 01. They make some very best templates for the blogger all over the world.
Even if you have been to the site, browsed through the templates and even installed one, you may have not noticed that they als run a good blog, always with good advise and help on upgrading Wordpress etc.
What Fresh 01 also did was to create a advertisement size template for the Internet advertisements. Which I have posted above (after reversing the colors). You can also download a PSD, photoshop version of the file at frest 01.

A recession could accelerate the trend to web based CPC advertising.

I came across this post by Don Dodge, "Will advertising revenues drop in a recession? Who will win and who will lose?"
Usually recession takes out the trust of life blood of of economy out to a drive and after that it is a chain reaction, everything but essentials will fail. But in order to climb out of such a hole should it ever happen, will be harder. Even though Advertising and marketing may get cut first, you will have to advertise in order to promote your products in a awakening economy. Some will have to continue advertising in the best possible method to sustain continuity. So some advertising and marketing may get cut but search advertising (give them what they look for), CPC will live through as Don says, Advertising in general will fall, but CPC Internet advertising will increase.
"The trend towards Internet advertising has been growing for years. Still, less than 10% of all advertising dollars are spent on the Internet, up from about 6% a few years ago. The trend will continue and probably accelerate with a recession. This is great news for search engines like Google, Microsoft Live Search, and Yahoo Search."
In fact the recession might be a shot in the arm for internet advertising!

Are There Barriers To Online Advertising?

Are There Barriers To Online Advertising? I did not think about this much either, until I read this fine article.
It is a result of ‘asked the experts’ session at IAB UK, Internet Advertising Bureau UK. So here is an introduction with tiny little part from the article;

"As part of the IAB’s remit to help grow the internet marketing industry, we thought it would be useful host an event where a panel of industry experts could discuss the possible impediments to the continued growth of the medium. We structured the seminar in a way that enabled delegates and visitors to our site in the lead up to the event to pose their own questions and concerns around the subject to our panel.

Our ‘genius bar’ of online experts contained our very own Guy Phillipson, Andrew Bradford of AOL, LBi’s Jo Simmonds and, representing the client side of the equation, Scott Gallacher of BSkyB."
