Google Loves Twitter, Wants To Collaborate On Ads!

Twitter's sudden popularity is bringing praise from everyone, from lowly you and me to Aston Kucher, Oprah and the big shots like Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, who seems to have a special love for the advertising capacity of Twitter and anyone that does real time updates like Twitter.

"The question is how could you make some money on that? Without comment specifically about Twitter, because there are a number of real-time update companies like Twitter, you can imagine that to the degree they become successful, and obviously Twitter is already doing so, it could be a channel for product information, marketing information, real-time information, for which you can hang advertising products, whether it's a text ads or video ads.

I don't know personally their strategy, but it strikes me that's a logical strategy to pursue. It's something we'd be very happy to pursue with them and all the other players in that space.

The great thing about Twitter is it shows people really want to communicate, and that communication can occur in many, many different forms." Eric Schmidt said 15th April during the conference call to report Google's first-quarter profits,

AdWords AD Auctions, How They Work?

When I think of an auction, be it a charity auction or land auction or ebay auctions, first thing comes to my mind is the highest bid. If I really wants the goods being auctioned, the best will be the highest bid and I will have to beat the rest of bidders in their high bids.
But I learned today that at the AdWords auctions the system works a little differently. The winner only pays the minimum amount necessary to maintain their position on the page. That means you'll only pay the minimum necessary to beat the person below you. In fact, our quality-based pricing system ensures that you'll often pay less than your maximum bid.
So your prize of the Ad could easily be less than your highest bid!
Confused? Me too, until I watched this video. (Or watch in HD)

Advertising For Twitter Like Services. (Google Adwords For Real Time Search)

Relevant ads for searches like the service that Google provides are easy (?) as the content is mostly static. Even the dynamic content like blogs become static media, once published and it is a matter of indexing that counts and Google has been good at it.
But to advertise to users on services like twitter is bit too hard as, say like twitter search may reveal real time conversations and targeting ads for these conversations has to be different from traditional web advertising or online advertising.
InSeconds CEO says we need anothe Google Adwords, Google Adwords for real time search. Yep! May be Google need to modify that Google Ads for News to fit the scene.

Up Coming AdWords Changes For 2009

Google AdWords API blog has posted planned changes for 2009. It also mentions that this might be implemented in the first half of the 2009.
* New calls features
o More operations in a single call: We're changing the way services are constructed so that you'll be able to accomplish more work per call. Specifically, operations will accept a variety of modifiers acting on elements across ad groups. For example, you'll be able to add, update, and delete keywords across ad groups, all within a single call.
o Asynchronous calls: We'll offer asynchronous calls, which will allow you to work with large sets of data faster and more easily. Instead of having to wait for our system to fully complete your request before you can make another one, you'll be able to make another call as soon as the API service confirms that it's received your previous call. No more waiting for large requests to be finished. (Synchronous methods will still be supported as well.)
o Partial failure acceptance: We plan to support partial failure, so large posts aren't rolled back due to a few errors. This allows you to keep moving forward with development and not have to re-do the same posts.
* Lower costs: We plan to directly reduce API units consumed for the new asynchronous methods, and are exploring other ways to improve the value you get from the AdWords API by lowering costs and/or quota use.
* Faster development: Our new codebase will allow us to expose new AdWords features faster, keeping the API more closely in line with the AdWords web interface. This will make it easier for you to keep your applications current and to take advantage of the latest AdWords advancements.

The fundamental changes are supposed to offer you some advantages:

Google Releases AdWords Editor 6.5

Adwords Editor 6.5 has been released with quite a few improvements and enhancements. Some of the most notables are;
Keyword Opportunities (Beta)
The Keyword expansion feature generates keyword ideas based on words or phrases.
The Keyword multiplier combines lists of terms to form new keywords.

Data view improvements
Column auto-sizing: Double-click a column header to fit the width to its contents, or right-click the column header and select 'Auto-size Column.' To auto-size all columns at once, click the column chooser and select 'Auto-size All Columns.'
Horizontal scrolling: You can now scroll from left to right.
Column selection: The column chooser stays open until you click away or hit the Escape key.
Date picker: Use a calendar to select campaign end dates and date ranges for performance statistics.

New editing options
Copy campaign or ad group 'shells': This feature enables you to copy a campaign or ad group without the items inside, then paste the duplicate campaign or ad group into a new location. Go to the Edit menu > Copy Special.
Create duplicates when replacing or appending text: When you use the Replace Text or Append Text tools (in the Edit menu) you can now create duplicates of the items you're editing and modify the duplicates instead of the originals.

Content bids
To use a separate content bid for an ad group, simply specify the bid on the Ad Groups tab. Previously, it was necessary to enable content bids for a campaign by checking a 'Content Bids' box on the Campaigns tab; this checkbox has been removed.

The upgrading your current version said to be a painless operation and you are able to do an inplace upgrade.
