Google Places, The Directory For Local Businesses On The Web.

Google announced today Google Places, a place for local business to do online advertising for real time searchers on the web. Exactly what a local wants in a locality, unless he or she is searching to write a paper on philosophy.
When Google launched the Google Local Business Center, it was Google Favorite Places that guided mobile users with their unique bar codes, QR codes. I remember checking out Berkeley as seen below.

The todays announcement of Google Places introduces local search and map listings, realtime updates, custom QR codes and coupons. Business owners could even get photo shoots for businesses.
With the new model, Google compete with the likes of Twitter, FourSquare and facebook that offers location based and local information.
Business' could buy tags, for $25 a month that will direct users who search by the tag, once found they will be able to print out QR codes or coupons and find the way through Google Maps.
Again local searches seems to be focusing on quick searches. Do it to find something in a hurry and do it again if necessary. May be Google will improve it, like it did so far with the Google Places.

Creative Display Ads That Work!

I was reading a post on the series of display advertising which guided reader about creative display advertising without limits. The idea;
Imagine you own a popular coffee chain in Denver that you want to promote. On Monday afternoon, it’s warm and 80 degrees in the city. You run a display ad campaign online that offers Denverites a discount coupon for an iced cold latte, with a searchable map embedded in the ad to show local branches, and a real-time feed from people who have tweeted publicly about your newest flavor. That evening, a cold front rolls over the Rockies. Your ad automatically and dynamically adjusts to present a photo of a hot, steaming cup of hot chocolate in front of a warm fireplace, together with a home delivery number and an offer of free marshmallows.
is exactly what Volvo did to promote the new XC60. Created by Euro RSCG for the new Volvo XC60 rich media ad which also offered an interactive game, photos and gallery. But the best was the incorporation of a Twitter feed from the New York Auto show in the same ad space was a new impression. According to Google, in just three days, the campaign garnered 170 million impressions, 50,000 clicks and 17,000 hours of brand engagement.
That is advertising! with vigor.

Google Loves Twitter, Wants To Collaborate On Ads!

Twitter's sudden popularity is bringing praise from everyone, from lowly you and me to Aston Kucher, Oprah and the big shots like Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, who seems to have a special love for the advertising capacity of Twitter and anyone that does real time updates like Twitter.

"The question is how could you make some money on that? Without comment specifically about Twitter, because there are a number of real-time update companies like Twitter, you can imagine that to the degree they become successful, and obviously Twitter is already doing so, it could be a channel for product information, marketing information, real-time information, for which you can hang advertising products, whether it's a text ads or video ads.

I don't know personally their strategy, but it strikes me that's a logical strategy to pursue. It's something we'd be very happy to pursue with them and all the other players in that space.

The great thing about Twitter is it shows people really want to communicate, and that communication can occur in many, many different forms." Eric Schmidt said 15th April during the conference call to report Google's first-quarter profits,

Advertising For Twitter Like Services. (Google Adwords For Real Time Search)

Relevant ads for searches like the service that Google provides are easy (?) as the content is mostly static. Even the dynamic content like blogs become static media, once published and it is a matter of indexing that counts and Google has been good at it.
But to advertise to users on services like twitter is bit too hard as, say like twitter search may reveal real time conversations and targeting ads for these conversations has to be different from traditional web advertising or online advertising.
InSeconds CEO says we need anothe Google Adwords, Google Adwords for real time search. Yep! May be Google need to modify that Google Ads for News to fit the scene.
