Google Punishes Google.JP And Drops PageRank!

I noticed this on Matt Cutts twitter, "Google.co.jp PageRank is now ~5 instead of ~9. I expect that to remain for a while." and after further investigation I found a post by Google Blogscoped, it is Google Punishing itself for link spam vis paid posts. Google.jp has recently gone hunting and buying blog posts in a promotion campaign. So when google says it is serious about paid posts on blogs, I guess, it is serious. (more info)

Display Relevant Google News On Your Website

I usually start my web day with reading Google News among other news portals. But I am sure many of you start your day with your own website. In that case, Google has offered means for you to run Google news sidebar or a Google news widget on your site, saving you you few clicks. (In my case click home icon and then click news as my starter page is Google.)
You will also be able to focus on the segment of the news you want to read or know. Perhaps what your readers might be interested in like Sports, Business or entertainment. If you prefer, you can also select keywords releated to your website, like Advertising or The viral frontier, as I would chose.
All these are thanks to Google Ajax Search API and you can read their post or just run the wizard offered by the team. I learnt about it at the following link;

Google Drops The Print Ads Program.

In a move to cut costs and maximize profit at Google, the Google's print ad program was shown to the door. According to a blog post (link Bellow) by Spencer Spinnell, Director of Google Print Ads, Google has concluded that its print ads program was not producing enough income and prompted to scrap the newspaper program effective Feb. 28.Print ads were a part of Google Offline programs.

According to the article this decision affects about 800 U.S. newspapers. The program started with 50 publications that used the Google print ad program.

"We launched our Print Ads program with 50 newspaper partners in November 2006 and, with the cooperation of our partners, were able to expand the network to include more than 800 U.S. newspapers. Since then we have worked closely with advertisers and newspapers to create a product that would bring a new source of revenue to publishers."

Google is looking to support the people and newspapers affected by the elimination with existing online advertising programs.

"We have teams of people working with hundreds of publishers to find new and creative ways to earn money from engaging online content. AdSense, DoubleClick, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Earth, Google News and many other products are a part of our significant investments to innovate in this space"

Ad Crunch At TechCrunch.

Update: I just read the comments left on TC for this post. It is very interesting!

As any tech blogger, I have been reading TechCrunch for years. Getting news, learning how the blog world operate, getting to know about industry players and movers were part and parcel of it. But I never knew much about how they run their ads. I knew they were using Federated Media as one of the sources of advertisements.
I also remember issues they had with FM and John Battelle, whose blog I also read to learn about search engines and adnetworks.
Today Michael Arrington was wondering about if they should switch the Ad suppliers. According to the same post, most of the top bloggers like GigaOm and Sites like DIGG have left Federated Media for one or other reason.
But most interesting was the math works behind the ad network FM and it's clients like TechCrunch. I think it is a good read!
