Did Facebook Failed To Impress Investors With New Ad Revenue?

Facebook sort of WOWed wall street with increased ad revenue, mobile ad revenue. Facebook reported mobile ad revenue increase from about 14% in Q3 2012 to 23% in Q4 2012. Even though ad revenue for Facebook is promising, the cost of the operations seems to have blown the air out of the balloon.

Cost mainly comes from hires and changes to infrastructure. Company needed more people in the new Facebook gifts, Facebook graph search, custom audience and others. Of those, you have heard and read enough about the Graph search but I like the 'custom  audience'. I am sure Facebook will increase ad revenue with this product. Custom Audience improves ad targeting by  bringing together Facebook’s user data and customer data from advertiser. There could not be any better resources for advertising, and it might help in the Google vs Facebook Advertising fight.

Laws Of Display Advertising physics

I am a bit close to physics and when I saw the post about physics and advertising, I was a bit intrigued!
Recently Android Team made headlines for being closer to the outer limits of our galaxy and the Google Advertising, not to be out done, created this "Big Bang" of their own.
So they laid out these three "laws of display advertising physics" in relation to the display advertising;
  1. The Theory of Relativity: The distinction between different advertising technologies (like ad networks and demand side platforms) is blurring. Each of these technologies provides similar ways to achieve your marketing goals, depending on how you want to manage your campaign.

  2. Fusion Theory: There’s a few different ways to deliver ads to people. Each on their own is powerful, but combining these different ways unlocks the best results.

  3. The Law of Perpetual Motion: New technology is driving rapid change in display advertising—which is constantly improving marketers’ creative palettes and the way that ads are bought and sold. Embracing new media and technology provides a key way for marketers to differentiate and grow their businesses in a new universe.
Great but I think Android Team still got the edge! :)

Google Loves Twitter, Wants To Collaborate On Ads!

Twitter's sudden popularity is bringing praise from everyone, from lowly you and me to Aston Kucher, Oprah and the big shots like Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, who seems to have a special love for the advertising capacity of Twitter and anyone that does real time updates like Twitter.

"The question is how could you make some money on that? Without comment specifically about Twitter, because there are a number of real-time update companies like Twitter, you can imagine that to the degree they become successful, and obviously Twitter is already doing so, it could be a channel for product information, marketing information, real-time information, for which you can hang advertising products, whether it's a text ads or video ads.

I don't know personally their strategy, but it strikes me that's a logical strategy to pursue. It's something we'd be very happy to pursue with them and all the other players in that space.

The great thing about Twitter is it shows people really want to communicate, and that communication can occur in many, many different forms." Eric Schmidt said 15th April during the conference call to report Google's first-quarter profits,

Google Drops The Print Ads Program.

In a move to cut costs and maximize profit at Google, the Google's print ad program was shown to the door. According to a blog post (link Bellow) by Spencer Spinnell, Director of Google Print Ads, Google has concluded that its print ads program was not producing enough income and prompted to scrap the newspaper program effective Feb. 28.Print ads were a part of Google Offline programs.

According to the article this decision affects about 800 U.S. newspapers. The program started with 50 publications that used the Google print ad program.

"We launched our Print Ads program with 50 newspaper partners in November 2006 and, with the cooperation of our partners, were able to expand the network to include more than 800 U.S. newspapers. Since then we have worked closely with advertisers and newspapers to create a product that would bring a new source of revenue to publishers."

Google is looking to support the people and newspapers affected by the elimination with existing online advertising programs.

"We have teams of people working with hundreds of publishers to find new and creative ways to earn money from engaging online content. AdSense, DoubleClick, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Earth, Google News and many other products are a part of our significant investments to innovate in this space"

Google FInds New Places For Ads.

Google as a publisher, advertiser is going places and they seem to fine new places all the time. The latest according to Google Official Blog is, the image search ads and Google Financials (in the USA) . So another way to monetize Google, is for you to find!
"If you're based in the U.S. you may already have spotted or clicked on the different text and image ads we’re testing on the results pages of Google Image Search. And last week you may have noticed we launched Sponsored Videos on YouTube — a great example of matching ads to content. In addition, we are today launching text ads on Google Finance in the United States. We're also looking at how best to show display ads on Google Finance. And later, in the very near future, we will start testing text ads on a small number of news refinements within Google Search — so if, for example, you type "iPod" into Google.com and then click on the news link on the upper left-hand side, you might see text ads alongside those results."
