Facebook sort of WOWed wall street with increased ad revenue, mobile ad revenue. Facebook reported mobile ad revenue increase from about 14% in Q3 2012 to 23% in Q4 2012. Even though ad revenue for Facebook is promising, the cost of the operations seems to have blown the air out of the balloon.
Cost mainly comes from hires and changes to infrastructure. Company needed more people in the new Facebook gifts, Facebook graph search, custom audience and others. Of those, you have heard and read enough about the Graph search but I like the 'custom audience'. I am sure Facebook will increase ad revenue with this product. Custom Audience improves ad targeting by bringing together Facebook’s user data and customer data from advertiser. There could not be any better resources for advertising, and it might help in the Google vs Facebook Advertising fight.

Will Facebook Be The New Online Advertising Tsar?
Everyone is elated or alarmed about facebook growth and the focus on facebook advertising is no different. Techcrunch even has a series of articles discussing about "how Facebook will eat Google's lunch" and as a part of this series, they had a nice article about;
How facebook over take Google in advertising revenue, a prediction of course.
But it is again based on other estimated ad revenues that facebook might have received.Again, I have never clicked on an facebook ad (I have clicked on Google Ads) but that might be because I spend much less time at facebook than most people.
The estimated ad revenue for facebook is estimated to be about $2 Billion in 2010 and over $4 Billion in 2011.
The article I am talking about is written by Hussein Fazal CEO of AdParlor, who advertises on facebook, yes on the right hand column. You can find the truth about facebook advertising and revenue from people who handle some of the advertising on facebook

What Did We Search In 2010 And Which Sites Did We Visit?
Looks like we have been doing a bunch of things in 2010. More and more people got on the net and searched visited sites. It looks like facebook became the most searched about, most visited site on the net. Of all the facebook related searches, facebook was the numero uno in the top ten search terms, there was no change from 2009.
Then there is "facebook login" which was holding number nine position on the top 10 search terms in 2009 jumped to position 2 this year, just behind facebook. Myspace, which held the number two position dropped to sixth position,
Yahoo exchanged position with ebay and google which was in the sixth position disappeared from the list, I guess we don't have to search fro google any more since we are going there first in any case. Or is it? Looks like we dropped google for facebook! facebook accounted for 8.93% of all internet visits while google met 7.19%.
There were many other changes as well like " the top searched for athlete was Tiger Woods and the top sports team was the Dallas Cowboys from within the Sports category." you can find about them by visiting HITWISE.
Welcome to 2011, soon, and let us search and visit.

Engaging Facebook Social Ads, Where will they Go?
Caroline McCarthy at the Social has written a very nice piece about social advertising. She is talking about the "Engagement Ads," the new "experimental" advertising technology that Facebook unveiled last week.
The new advertising allows members of Facebook to leave comments on participating ads, add the brands to their list of "fan pages," and use them to send friends virtual gifts. For the social network it's a small but important trial as it continues to combat the common wisdom that sites of its ilk can't survive on ad revenue.
But she also speaks about perils of such advertising programs, like the one faced very well by GM with it's Chevy Tahoe advertising program. But I think it is a very good read as we get ready for these interactive advertisements.
Here is Caroline's piece.
