100 links or fewer per page, Google Guideline, Is It Still Valid?

Google Webmaster Help Channel and Matt Cutts explained why the 100 Links per page limit does not hold value now. He also explains why you should have thousands of links and how that could affect the page rank. Mr. Cutts answered a question from "Blind Five Year Old, from San Francisco California. Short but very valuable informative video.

Dirty Little Pennies, Google Algorithm And BlackHat SEO

It looks like the first failed and the second works. The third, BlackHat SEO worked for a while and failed when it was discovered.
I just finished reading an article on NYTimes on Dirty Little Search Secrets, directed to by a tweet by Google Spam Guru Matt Cutts. Blackhat SEO, can backfire sometimes, like it did in the case of J.C.Penny;

J.C.Penny has managed to come through with $17.8 Billion dollars of holiday sales, for the first time since 2001. So even though Penny denies it, experts think the blackhat SEO helped J.C.Penny amass some cash through link love. Links that can bring you up in the Google searches, back down when Google or it's algorithms detect the fact. J.C. Penney just experienced both;
   At 7 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, J. C. Penney was still the No. 1 result for “Samsonite carry on luggage.”

    Two hours later, it was at No. 71.

    At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Penney was No. 1 in searches for “living room furniture.”

    By 9 p.m., it had sunk to No. 68.

    In other words, one moment Penney was the most visible online destination for living room furniture in the country.

    The next it was essentially buried.

It is a very good article, 5 pages long with a lot of information.

Local Google And Location Based Searches

Local Google And Location Based Searches
Google searches are becoming more local. The search engine is matching your searches to ypu locales worldwide, Google does this based on your IP address and finds what ever you are looking for, in your visinity, on a google map.
Just try searching for [groceries], [sporting goods] or [flowers], or looking for your [bank], your [gym], or the [post office], As Google Blog pointed out.
I got the right information when I searched on all the given criteria above. I also searched on restaurants and as you can see from picture above results were presented with a map and links to reviews of restaurants.
Also there is a link to change the location if you want to search the neighborhood or for some rare reason, Google gets your location wrong, for an example if you were to search over 3G on a mobile device!
So here comes your SEO needs, in order to get listed you need to be indexed by Google and need to have a bit of higher page rank. All the sites listed above in my search, had page ranks ranging from 3-5, most having Page Rank of 4.
So get your gear out. If you area restaurant, get it reviewed, if you are in places like Mountain View, CA or for that matter any populated place, Your customers might be bloggers or twitters. Find a way to promote your establishment on the net. Perhaps a advertisement at the restaurant or a simple menu insert telling your customers that if they blog their experince, on their next visit they could have a drink or a dish of their choice free.
What ever the way get yourself know, your customers are looking for ....

Knowing Your Pagerank Will Help You With Your Advertising

I wrote about a Page Rank monitoring tool, (Page Rank Viewing! Know Your Pagerank All The Time.) that is available for checking pagerank on sites that you visit. It is also useful to check the pagerank of your own sites. But now I am without the tool as it is not available for Firefox 3 (I could not wait for the big event tomorrow but I will still download the final version of Firefox 3.0 tomorrow), which I upgraded today to finish up some of my development on a another web application.
So I set out to check if there were any other tools that would help me do the same thing untill the tool get updated. Then I realized that the keyword, "know your pagerank" "knowing your pagerank" points to MyAdlets. How did I do that! So I pulled out gear I have found out that all the Google site give MyAdlets a good reference, from USA to Timbaktu.
I should have got into this SEO business. But the results shows My ADLETS, The Viral Frontier in front of the Title of the article. But I am sure this post will not get indexed that way. It will have Article title first because I followed this;
Swap Blog Name And Post Title On Blogger
Just imagine, how many times, say for last ten years, the phrases, "know your pagerank" and "know your page rank" were published and hunted for.
I am not the top result for all the Google sites but most are. You can check at following Google sites again I did not list all;

Google Japan
Google China
Google Korea
Google UK
Google Israel
Google Philippines
Google India

The Place closest to Timbuktu (Tombouctou) was Morocco!
Google Morocco
I was going to say visit Matt Cutts page to learn about Pagerank and SEO but I just remembered that I will be writing about one of Matt's advise about pagerank. So the link and advise on next article.

Please leave a comment if you see different results from your country!

NoFollow, DoFollow ! U Comment, I Follow with iFollow

Update; We are moving this article series over to Geemodo!;
GeeMoDo, What Is In A Name, "Thousand Dollar Opportunity Of Our Times".

DoFollow, What is it and do I need it?
Depends on what you want, read or follow along for a small lecture.
DoFollow was created to counter the NoFollow initiative brought up by Google in the blogger platform to combat comment spam. Later other blogging platforms ;

Brad Fitzpatrick - LiveJournal
Dave Winer - Scripting News
Anil Dash - Six Apart
Steve Jenson - Blogger
Matt Mullenweg - WordPress
Stewart Butterfield - Flickr
Anthony Batt - Buzznet
David Czarnecki - blojsom
Rael Dornfest - Blosxom
Mike Torres - MSN Spaces,
Ross Rader - Blogware
John Panzer - AOL Journals
Kevin Marks - of Technorati also added a draft formal spec for nofollow.
Reini Urban - PhpWiki
David Gorman - ModBlog
Arnab Nandi - Drupal
James Tauber - Leonardo
Jeremie Bouillon - points out a GPL plugin for Textpattern
Simon Brown - Pebble
Ilkka Huotari - Netdoc
Shaun Inman - ShortStat
Eaden McKee - bBlog
Yariv Habot - backBlog
John Lyons - enetation
Steven Roussey - Network54
Will Yardley - Dreambook
Samuel Klingen Daams - Travellerspoint joined in. So anyone who is using NoFollow was saved from leaking Pageranks to comment spammers. But on the other side of this that non spamming commenter was also spared of link love. This was in 2005.

So the physics laws of blogsphere kicked in and to counter effects, the DoFollow initiative started. This is not a real technical initiative. Just that blogs did not have the NoFollow tag enabled on their blogs.

For Blogger it is to remove the nofolow tag from the template and for wordpress there are even plugins that handle nofollow.
But the ifollow is one of the movements that I found in the initial search venture. So I will look for all the initiatives and bring out another post with All the links and such. At least you know about some blooging platforms that are out there!

Page Rank Viewing! Know Your Pagerank All The Time.

Most of the time when I visit a websites, specially if I am evaluating them, I take into consideration the site content combined with multitude of other factors. Page Rank is one of them. But every and each time you visit a site, if you have to jump out to another site to check the pagerank the process could be tedious. So what do I do? Since I use Firefox for browsing, 90% of the time, I use Live PR extension to Firefox. This sits on my status bar displays the pagerank of any site I am visiting. I also keep a tab of my own site ranking. All my blogs have rank 3 or higher. Even this relatively new one, MyADLETS is getting there.
The other thing is this tool gives me laughs some time, if I see a SEO site advising you of how to get your rank higher, and has one or zero most of the time, it is a laughing matter. So first lesson on SEO is to make sure the folks teaching you know what they teach.
You can get Firefox from here and the extension after you have install the Firefox, from the Firefox addons site. Search for live pagerank.
